1477918 Hot pressed copper coated particles BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTE 16 Oct 1974 [18 Oct 1973] 44852/74 Headings C7D and C7F [Also in Division H1] A method of manufacture of an accumulator electrode comprises steps wherein powder particles of active material, preferably TiNiH, are provided with a hydrogen permeable coating of copper and the coated particles are hot pressed. The coating of the active particles is effected in one of three ways: firstly the powder may be introduced into a copper salt solution together with an organic reducing agent, e.g. an aldehyde, the particle surfaces acting as a catalyst the reaction taking place at room temperature; alternatively the hydrogen present in the active particles may be desorbed in a copper salt solution to reduce the copper ions to the metal at the particle surface, the reaction taking place at a temperature of 70-95‹C; thirdly the copper may be deposited electrolytically using a fluidized-bed electrode. |
