1478484 Coating glass articles DAICEL Ltd 16 Aug 1974 [20 Aug 1973] 36104/74 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A method of coating a glass article comprises fusing thereon at not above 200‹C a powder composition which consists essentially of a homogenous mixture of a polyamide of M.P. not above 200‹C and 0.05 to 1.0 wt % of one or more silane compounds where R is methyl or ethyl; R' is methyl, ethyl or propyl; R" is an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which is substituted by a primary amino group and may be interrupted by secondary or tertiary amine groups, n is 2 or 3; m is 0 or 1; and m + n is 2 or 3; which has been obtained by comelting to a homogeneous mixture, solidifying and comminuting. Specified polyamides are nylons 12, 11, 6-12, co-12/6, co-11/6, ter-12/6/6-6, ter-11/6/6-6 and ter-12/6/6-12; they may contain conventional stabilisers and plasticisers. Specified silanes include α-aminopropyl-triethoxy silane; N-#- (aminoethyl)-α-aminopropyl-trimethoxy silane and N-#-(aminoethyl)-α-aminopropyldimethoxy silane. In specific Examples 150 mesh (Tyler) powders are applied to heated glass bottles by electrostatic spray-coating and melted thereon to give coatings of about 180 or 200 microns. More than one coating may be applied. |
