The Parent Patent describes continuous composting of organic waste and/or sludge which is passed downwards through a closed aerator. Air, as fine bubbles, is passed uniformly and counter-currently upwards in an amt. determined by comparing pre-set and actual CO2 or O2 content of the exhaust air using separate suction and pressure fans. The air quantity is also regulated by comparing humidity levels in, pref., the upper and lower thirds of the reactor with pre-set values and then opt. adding a water spray to the air entering at the base of the aerator which is pref. heated to 40 degrees C. In this addn. the exhaust from the aerator is passed, as fine bubbles, into the activated zone of a sedimentation tank. The exhausted air, previously unused, simultaneously aerates and heated the sedimentation tank. As ic contains spores and fungi from the composting stage, clarification of the water is improved and accelerated (due to the heat supplied).
|
