The main frame of the tennis racquet is a light alloy extrusion (13), which is U shaped with its sides (12) diverging outwards from its base. It is bent to form the stringed area, its ends coming together as the handle. The open face of the section faces inwards and has another U shaped section (5) around the periphery of the stringed area. This second section comprises carbon fibre filaments in a resin matrix and is moulded (10) over the metal section to grip over the diverging sides. Holes (8) in the moulded inner frame are used for holding the strings (9). An I or double Y section may also be used.
|
