发明名称 Transferring hot melt or matte between large vessels - using vacuum pump made of graphite and contg. no moving parts
摘要
Plant for manipulating a molten metallurgical material, consisting of two vessels located side-by-side. In one vessel is a pump contg. an inlet channel through which the melt is drawn upwards into a chamber by applying a vacuum. A valve then cuts off the vacuum and connects the pump chamber to atmos. pressure so the melt flows through a U-shaped outlet channel into the second vessel. The inlet and outlet channels of the pump, and its chamber, are pref. all located in a single block of material made of, or coated with, graphite, the shape of the outlet channel being designed so the melt flows by gravity into the second vessel. The pump pref. uses a timer switching the valve between a vacuum pump and the atmos.; and a sensing electrode is located in the pump chamber to give a signal when a specified level is reached by the melt. The two vessels pref. consist of one container divided by a sill. In use e.g. a molten nickel sulphide matte at 830-850 degrees C, and contg. 22 wt.% S can be pumped at 200-300 kg/hr. from one vessel to another while leaving slag or dross floating in the first vessel. The pump has no moving parts in contact with the melt.
