A transmitter element for a mechanical-electrical converter for distance measurement has a core of magnetically conducting material and another coil movable relative to it. It produces large inductive changes for very small distance changes in order to provide more reliable and less troublesome distance evaluation. The coil (12) has an associated conducting piece (14) of magnetically conducting material which, in one end location of the transmitter, almost completely closes the magnetic circuit. The core (10) is E-shaped and the coil slides over the central leg (11). The circular conducting piece bridges the air gaps between the arms of the core in one end position.
