Device has a measuring wheel over which is passed the yarn and its rotary speed is fed by optical, magnetic, mechanical or electronic means in the form of pulses to a counter via a breaker switch. Pref. the device has a yarn guiding yoke connected to an electro-magnet which is actuated when the yarn has excessively thick nodules, the pulses produced by the magnet being applied to a counter for tripping the spinning rotor. The wheel may have its revs. counted by photoelectric means and a tab mounted on the wheel, the photoelectric means producing the signals which are applied to the counter. Used for cross-winding yarns produces by open-end spinning rotors. Length variation on bobbins is maintained within plus-or-minus 1%.
