High strength chain for heavy vehicle tyre - uses tempering process after welding of coupling links into slotted joining strips

The protective chain for the tyre has a pattern of grip elements (10) set edge on to the tread and joined by flat rings (12) looped through holes in the ends of the grip elements. The rings are welded after which the whole chain is tempered to provide optimum strength. Both grip elements and rings are made from carbon steel with the rings having a lower carbon content and a lower hardness. The weld seams are produced by bending the ends of the ring into parallel arms for max. strength. The steel mixes of the rings and elements i s chosen to result in min. wear between them during use. The chain is designed to protect tyres of quarry vehicles etc.
