In order to improve centring and to extend its useful life, the dental handpiece has an annular bearing support member (8) which is supported against the front face of the bearing element (7) which faces it in the thrust direction. The bearing support member (8) is secured against rotation in a position in which the air inlet and outlet for the blade unit (2) are exposed.
