Welding metal components with different melting points - by pressing the two faces together and subsequently heating the assembly pref. using light rays

Dissimilar metals or alloys are bonded by (a) pressing the surface of the two components together and (b) heating the united components in a separate process without the use of a protective gas shield. The faces to be joined are pref. cleaned before step (a) by rinsing with a protective gas. Heating is carried out pref. by directing light rays to the faces to be joined. Method is simple and does not require large or expensive appts. Used for joining dissimilar metals such as steel to Al alloy, Al to Ni or Cu, Ti to Cu or Ni.
