1485992 Pneumatic tyres UNIROYAL AG 30 Oct 1974 [6 Nov 1973] 46978/74 Heading B7C A breaker in a pneumatic tyre comprises a first ply 13; strips 14, e.g. of rubber, fibre reinforced rubber, or plastics, each contacting a respective circumferential edge or edge region of the first ply and forming a continuation of the transverse curve of the latter; and a second ply 5, the edges of which are folded over the strips and parts of the first ply. The axially outer edges of the strips are each spaced from the adjacent fold 6 or 7 by at least 4% of the tyre width. As illustrated, the plies are of rubberized cord fabric, and the strips may be made of the same, or different, rubber to that of the plies. The cords may be of steel. In alternative embodiments to those illustrated the strips taper axially outwardly (Fig. 2, not shown), or are folded about the edges of the first ply (Fig. 4, not shown).
