The magnetically levitated vehicle has mechanical and electrodynamic support systems designed to facilitate the transition from slow speed supported motion to higher speed levitated travel. Super-conducting armatures (2a, 2b) are arranged along the length of the vehicle (1) above reaction rails (3a, 3b) in the form of secondary armatures along the track. The mechanical support system comprises flanged wheels (4a, 4b) and rails (8a, 8b). The guide system comprises a further super-conducting coil (5) positioned opposite secondary coils (6) in the form of short circuit coils in the track.
