<p>The earthing stake, for earthing a conductor at the bottom of a trench into rocky ground, consists of a conducting bar or rod with a point at one end and an inclined slot (3) set into the side of its head. The conductor is placed in this slot and the stake is driven into the ground. The hammer blows deform the head of the stake so that it bends over and closes the slot thereby holding the conductor firmly in place and ensuring good contact between the conductor and the stake -- i.e. between conductor and earth.</p> |
