The localised breathing apparatus is for use by those working amid noxious fumes, etc., incorporating a pipe with rigid and flexible sections pivoting in three dimensions. The rigid tubular sections (7, 8) alternate with flexible ones (6), the latter working in conjunction with the pivot joints (5). The joints each consists of a pair of stirrups with collars (21) by which they are fixed to the ends of the respective rigid tube sections, to which the flexible tube sections are also attached. Each joint works on one or two orthogonal axes, equipped with friction devices. Thus a pipe can be made up of any desired diameter or length, pivoting in all directions.
