<p>1491995 Preparation of thymol BAYER AG 23 June 1976 [25 June 1975] 26132/76 Heading C2C A continuous process for the preparation of thymol comprises reacting m-cresol with propylene and/or compounds which eliminate propylene over aluminium oxide catalysts in the presence of a nitrogen base, the content of the basic nitrogen in the cresol being not greater than 100 ppm. The preferred bases are ammonia and its salt forming substitution products. The reaction is suitably carried out at 280 to 380‹ C.</p> |
