The fireplace has a hearth (5) and a back (4) with an air passage behind it. A chimney breast (1) rises over the fire opening. An insert (6) behind the breast leaves an airway between itself and the breast. It is attached to a horizontal plate (7) with holes (8) above which there are closed tubes (9, 10). A system of levers (25, 28, 27) can pull a screen (15) down the chimney breast over the fireplace opening and pivot a baffle (12) which diverts the chimney gases. In the initial position the gases go straight up the chimney(3). In the baffled position they are diverted to circulate through the closed tubes (9, 10) to which they give up their heat.
|
