A gas pressure actuated switch has a fixed contact (24) and a mobile contact (26). The mobile contact is in the form of a hollow cylindrical tube communicating between pressurizable compartments (40) and (20) each compartment having one wall which forms a piston (44) (46) operating in the switch housing. The gas in one chamber has a high electrical resistivity and passes from chamber to chamber upon actuation of the switch along the passage defined by the mobile contact.
