The adapted has a plug part (1a, 1b) to be inserted into a wall socket outlet, and a socket part into which the appliance plug is inserted. Sleeves of the socket part are in line with the pins of the plug part. At least one connection between plug part and socket part is broken, and contact ends at the break are brought out through wires, so that the circuit can be closed outside the adapter. The earth connection remains always closed. Two contact ends at each break are connected to test sleeve contacts, and the insulating material surrounding contacts of test sleeves so enclose an inserted plug that contact with contact members is prevented. The test sleeve contacts are at an angle of 0 deg. to 90 deg. to the direction of insertion into the socket part.
