Additives which can be fixed by a reaction process such as steaming or heating, on textile materials in the form of bands or threads, and esp. textile yarns, are applied by drawing the textile thread across the face of a block of the additive at a consistency which allows it to rub off. The thread is pref. drawn between the end faces of two cylindrical blocks of the additive rotating on a shaft transversely to the line of motion of the thread. The particles rubber off by friction collect on the opposite sides of the yarn which is then subjected to the reaction process, possibly after winding. The end friction faces from which the additive rubs off, or the actual blocks, are formed with a circular section or, alternatively, they may have an elliptical section. The friction surfaces may include more than one additive arranged as a sector or a segment of the circle or ellipse, and the pressure applied is adjustable. Dyeing or printing processes on yarns and bands of material can be carried out much more cheaply. The elliptical shape of the block makes it possible to use longer and shorter paths applying different amounts of material to the goods.
|
