A tubular reinforced plastics shaft is made by wrapping layers of fibre resin material about a heat conductive tapered core, locating the wrapped core in the tapered outer mould, applying longitudinally applied pressure derived from springs to maintain pressure upon the working material, and applying heat to cure the material. Fibres are pref. of graphite, boron or glass. Resins are pref. phenolics, epoxies, polyurethanes, alkyds, aminos, polyesters and ureas. The springs maintain pressure in the mould during the and form a shaft of uniform thickness and fibre distribution. The invention is of particular use in making golf clubs, ski poles or fishing rods.
|
