The machine toolw ith an indexable turret enables more than eight tools to be selectively used in an overall compact construction. The turret has an indexing plate on whose front side the spindles are mounted. Each spindle has a toothed wheel which, in the operational position of the spindle, engages with a drive wheel beyond the indexing plate. The plate rotates about a horizontal and the spindles are aligned vertically in the working position at right angles to the plate's axis of rotation. At least some spindles have clamping screws for holding the tool located in the end of the spindles furthest from the tool insertion point.
