The versatile casement bolt comes in two distinct units which can be mounted individually or in pairs, and provides a locking facility from the inside and the outside of the door resp. The primary unit (1) provides the inside lock, and the secondary unit can be added to a augment the door with an external lock and facilitates conversion. The primary unit has a casing comprising two parallel plates (2) and is delineated laterally by two plate returns (4a, 4b). The casing is housed in the door frame with the plates (2) parallel to the door plane and the outer return (4b) in the leaf edge. The lock mechanism is arranged in the casing and operates a bolt (7) with opposed co-aligned rods 9, 8). The bolt is sited next to the external return (4b) and the rods next to the inner return (4a).
