X-ray phosphor consists of a mixed Ba chloride-bromide with 10-90% bromide, activated with Gd, La or Y. Summation formula is Ba(Cl, Br):RE (in which the rare earth, RE, is 10-4 to 10-1 g-atom/mole). X-rays cause satisfactory bright fluorescence without phosphorescence. In comparison with Ca tungstate, the X-ray film density is enhanced by a factor of 1.6-1.8. The Br is esp. 50% of the Cl and the RE is Gd in a concn. of 10-2 g-atom/mole Ba(Cl, Br). In an example, the density of the X-ray film with an enhancer film contg. activated Ba(Cl, Br) was 100 with 10-4, 140 with 10-3 and 192 with 10-2 g-atom Gd/mole.
|
