Solar energy converter with black porous absorber - through which gaseous or liquid medium passes in continuous flow

Solar energy collector has a highly porous black coloured absorber through which a liq. or gaseous medium passes in a continuous flow. The absorber is mounted in an insulated, housing with a transparent plate e.g. glass covering the surface facing the sunlight. The heat absorbing medium is pref. carbon felt, granular carbon, black metallic fabric, black plastics or a sinter material. Using a gaseous medium an annular inlet in used surrounding the periphery of the absorber for the introduction of gas which then passes through the absorber layer in a transverse direction from the front face side and leaving through a centrally placed exit on the rear side of the absorber. Using a liq. medium such as water, the inlet is at the lower end of the absorber so that the medium passes through the absorber longitudinally before exiting at the upper end.
