The travelling road-surface heater comprises an oven suspended from a wheel-mounted chassis (1). The overn comprises a horizontal canopy with sidewalls descending to ground-level and transverse rows of gas-burners (12). The air for primary combustion is drawn in at the point of fuel injection, and secondary air is drawn from above the canopy. Combustion gases are extracted through adjustable funnels with flues. Each row of burners (12) may be operated independently to enable localised carriageway surface areas to be treated. The canopy may be sub-divided into three longitudinal panels of which the outer panels pivot up for inter site transit. The side walls to the canopy may terminate in a flexible skirt.
