<p>Starter cathode plates are continuously and mechanically made for electrolytic refining of metals, esp. Cu commencing with plates made by electrodeposition, cut to size, and straightened. The plates are carried along a conveyor on which they are joined to cathode suspension bars by straps. Plates travel continuously at constant speed through a row of tools which (a) locate one cathode suspension bar with two straight holding straps, (b) rollers bend the two straps round the bar so each end of each strap is in contact with a plate, (c) a pair of rolls is used to punch a through hole in each bent strap forming two tongues which are bent by another pair of rolls, (d) a final pair of rolls rivet the tongues so the straps are securely fixed to plate. High speed mass prodn. of starter cathodes immersed in an electrolyte from which Cu is deposited on the cathodes.</p> |
