Prior art arched spring blade with the wheels on the outside tend to oscillate when the aircraft lands. Invention corrects this by placing the wheels on the inside, where the force of landing decreases the radius of curvature of the arch, so damping the oscillations. A full arch may have a wheel at each end (the plane of the wheel being at right angles to the plane of the arch) or a half arch may have a single wheel, whose plane is parallel to that of the half arch; the latter arrangement suits the nose wheel of a tricycle undercarriage. The arch is pref. a glass fibre laminate, with long unidirectional rovings embedded in epoxy or polyester resin.
|
