<p>1508114 Two-part couplings HARVEY HUBBELL Inc 20 May 1976 [2 Sept 1975] 20936/76 Heading H2E An electric plug comprises blade contacts 12, 13 in a housing formed as a single-piece insulating moulding having a base 20 to which side covers 40, 60 are attached by integral hinges 15, 16 so that the covers may close to the Fig. 4 position in which the blade terminals 18, 19 and cable ends are encased. As shown, Fig. 5, flanges 56, 76 on the side covers co-operate with notches 22, 23 in the base 20 when the housing is closed so as to relieve the hinges from stress due to forces parallel to the blades. The side covers are provided with rims 43, 63, which co-operate to form a tight seal, with prongs 74, 75 engaging holes 54, 55. Flanges 57, 58, 77, 78 engage in slots 27, 28, in the base 20 to relieve the hinges from strain due to lateral forces. The contact blades 12, 13 pass through slots in the base. The covers have ribs 50, 51, 70, 71 to grip the cable, and self-tapping screws hold the covers together. An H-shaped member is disposed between the contact terminals 18, 19, and a sleeve 35, which may be filled with potting sealing material, surrounds them. In a modification (Figs. 7-10, not shown) a three-pin plug is disclosed, wherein the flanges 56, 76 and notches 22, 23, are replaced by pins (130-133) in the base engaging holes in the covers to releive longitudinal strain on the hinges.</p> |
