<p>Feeder for tank furnaces mfg. crystal glass or glass, has a suspended sill (a) leaving a bottom gap or calibrated hole through which the molten glass flows to a first stirrer (b) followed by a sill (c) with a top gap leading to a second stirrer (d); >2 stirrers may be used in this manner. At least one side wall of the feeder upstream of sill (a) has >=1 outlet for removing glass rich in silica but low in lead, this outlet pref. having a stopper. Used esp. with lead crystal glass contg. 24% Pb, to prevent segregation in the melt which causes serious defects in the glass prods., thus increasing mfg. costs.</p> |
