1514574 Moulding foam core articles DEERE & CO 29 Sept 1975 [18 Oct 1974] 39694/75 Heading B5A A composite article having a foamed core and a cover comprising a porous layer and an outer foam impervious strippable layer, is made by lining mould cavity with the cover and foaming the foamable material inside it. In one embodiment, Fig. 1, the mould cavity 10 of the twopart mould is lined with two pre-cut lengths 30, 33 of fabric having an impervious strippable outer coating 34, e.g. a sprayed or brushed coating, vacuum is applied to draw the covered lengths of fabric to the contours of the cavity while the foamable compound 31 expands. Heating elements 28 effect bonding of the lengths of fabric and heating elements 29 stretch the fabric to provide a surface embossing. The strippable layer is removed after the article is removed from the mould or is left in place and removed by the user. In another example, only one length of fabric and one mould half is used, the cavity being closed by a rigid member, e.g. a seat bottom, to which the foam bonds. |
