Zoom control for small camera - has axially moving slider and worm gearing with peg location

The zoom lens of the compact camera has a single control (5) which is slid parallel to the optical axis. A ring (506) is set at right angles to the slider and locates a peg (507) in a spiral groove of a worm gear (505) linked to the drive cog (503) for the zoom setting. The zoom control is simple to operate with one hand while the drive has few moving parts, apart from being compact and direct. A return spring (504) holds the zoom in the middle setting when the control is released.
