In the testing of the chemotherapeutic sensitivity of microorganisms, the decrease with time of the PO2 and/or the increase with time of the PCO2 is measured electrochemically in the presence of a chemotherapeutic agent using a PO2 and/or PCO2 measuring circuit. Rapid determin. of the sensitivity of microorganisms (esp. pathogenic bacteria) to chemotherapeutic agents, gives an indication of which agent should be used to treat a particular infection. Presence of an infection can be confirmed simultaneously with determination of sensitivity during a period of is approx. hrs., as compared with 2-3 days using conventional methods.
