In a process of the so-called integrated type for the production of ammonia and urea, the absorption of CO2 from the crude gases passing to the ammonia synthesis reactor is effected by means of an absorption apparatus which is divided into two sections, one of which is of the type with adiabatic plates (6) and the other is of the type with a thin-film tube bundle (9).
