Coloured or ornamental spectacle frames are produced from thermoplastics sheets by first die-cutting the blanks of the frames in transparent or translucent sheets, coating the die-cut sheets with colour or ornaments, overlaying the coloured or ornamented sheets with a further die-cut thermoplastic sheet and then finishing the frames from the die-cut blanks in a known manner. Pref. the thermoplastics sheets are extruded and the die-cutting of the frame blanks is effected whilst the sheets are still warm. Colouring or ornamenting is effected with the aid patterned or coloured foil, the foil being overlaid by a further die-cut sheet and bonded to the sheets by heat or adhesives. Up to 90% of expensive waste material is recycled for re-use for the same purpose as it is not contaminated with colouring or ornamenting material.
