The economiser is for an industrial or domestic heating system using hot water, and having a boiler working in conjunction with radiators etc. The water from the radiators is returned to the boiler via a recycling circuit. The combustion gases from the boiler (13) flow inside a pipe (19) with a coil (S) around it through which water flows from the recycling circuit (14, 17) and back to the hot water outlet pipe (21) from the boiler again. The coil can be part of a bypass pipe, connected to an auxiliary pipe connecting the recycling and outlet pipes. It can be mounted round a section of cylindrical conduit with protruding rings of built-up construction on the inside, at right angles to the conduit axis. The internal ring diameter is the same as that of the chimney to which the economiser is connected.
