The protection device includes a jacket which surrounds the distributor cover (11) over at least half of its periphery. Its lateral surface is parallel to the distributor (11,12) axis. A protective surface (6) is provided at the top of the structure serving as the structure bottom. It receives and holds ignition cables emerging from the distributor cover (11). The jacket frorms part of the side surface of a prism. The surface has an axis parallel recess whose edges continue into both side edges of the jacket dome which surrounds the ignition cable bundle.
