A computing device comprising: one or more processors; a filter driver, coupled with the one or more processors, to: determine hardware transition information related to a transition of a hardware device of the computing device from a first higher power consumption state to a second lower power consumption state, by monitoring input/output (I/O) signals associated with the hardware device that relate to how an operating system of the computing device transitioned the hardware device from the first higher power consumption state to the second lower power consumption state, the hardware transition information comprising information associated with how to transition the hardware device from the first higher power consumption state to the second lower power consumption state; andsave the hardware transition information for access by a firmware module; and the firmware module, coupled with the one or more processors, to: transition, in response to a wake event, the hardware device to the first higher power consumption state from the second lower power consumption state to allow the hardware device to service the wake event; andtransition, on completion of the servicing of the wake event, the hardware device back to the second lower power consumption state utilizing the saved hardware transition information.
