Closing and opening rods are provided for making protective netting for young trees and other plants, from knotted or extruded polyethylene filamentous webs. The rods are fitted into the outer surfaces of the webs. Up to 65% of the height of the nets are installed in the soil to the roots of the plants against gnawing and eating by animals.
