The locking buckle for a vehicle's safety belt consists of a tongue (1, 8) which is inserted into a lock housing. The housing has two superimposed plate-type parts which form a duct to take the tongue (1, 8). On the narrow side of the duct is a pivoting bolt (10) which is mounted in circular sector shaped cavities (11, 12) in the plate type housing parts (3, 4). The bolt (10) is hand operated by a press-button. The bolt (10) is circular sector shaped, with centre angle at the angle of traverse required for release smaller than that of the circular sector shaped cavities (11, 12) in the plate-type housing parts (3, 4). The centre angle of the circular sector shaped cavities (11, 12) is > one hundred and eighty degrees in the plate-type housing parts (3, 4). A spring loaded operating lever (15) with an operating arm (17) is fixed to the pivot bolt (10). A lever arm (20) of the hand-operated press-button (18) which pivots on a pivot bearing (19) touches the operating arm (17).
