A still or cine camera back is easily assembled and mounted on the camera and is accurate in its alignment and operation. The camera uses a film cassette and the injection moulded plastic camera back holds it in correct register in the camera housing. The back is equipped with a spring-pressure plate bearing against the cassette. The camera back is hinged on a pivot which is channeled to restrict camera back swing to less than 180 deg. but can be easily mounted to the camera when the opening angle is only a few degrees. When the fully open back is not demountable. The strain of the opened back is borne by the camera housing not the hinge. Camera back fittings are easily fitted and then heat welded or rivetted.
