Textile webs are subjected to wet treatment by passing them through a treatment channel in which the webs are subjected continuously to phase displaced, sinusoidally varying compressions and relaxations in the transverse direction w.r.t. the direction of movement of the webs through the channel. Movement of webs is induced by imparting to the webs a resultant forward component due to programme controlled quick alternation of the compressive and relaxing forces. Used in intensive squeegee washing of textile webs made of wool fibres or contg. wool fibres during which it is also required to impart to the webs and also to the individual fibres a quality improving structural change. Change may involve decatising in orthogonal directions and increasing the bulk of individual fibres.
