The tube comprises coaxial outer and inner pipes with perforations at regular intervals in the inner pipe to form a communication between them. One of the pipes, pref. the outer is supplied with the poisoning liq. while the other is connected to the discharge for the liq. The level of the reactor poisoning in the control tube is regulated by varying the flow speed of the liq. poison introduced from the inlet tube. Both a coarse and a fine adjustment of the level of poisoning can be achieved with a single appts., thus enabling either rapid shutdown or normal operating control to be carried out with the same appts.
