The typewriter or recording machine has a writing head travelling over the paper etc. and discharging ink from a stationary tank. An antechamber connected to the head travels with it. Two hoses between the antechamber and the tank form a ring main. A filter (18) is mounted in the antechamber (15) before the passage (19) leading to the head, and the mouths (16, 17) of the hoses (5, 6) are situated near the filter and aimed at it. Thus any movement of ink in the ring main causes a current to flow past the filter on the side furthest from the passage to the head, and tends to wash accumulated dirt from it.
