Electric steam iron water drip valve for supplying water from water tank to steam chamber has a needle which is forming part of an electromagnet controlled by a thermostat such that the water is supplied to the steam chamber only when the temp. of the ironing plate has reached predetermined value. Pref. control circuit includes a further switch in the handle connected in series with the thermostat.
