<p>Core insert for tubeless tyres comprises a hoop made of open celled elastic foam with an integral skin of similar material perforated with a large number of small holes with wide mouths. The cores inhibit sudden loss of pressure due to puncture or dislocation of the surrounding tyre, and provide sufficient support for the vehicle to be driven for a while on the depressured tyre. The skin with its convergent profile pores selectively facilitates pressurisation of the core via the interface between the insert and the tyre carcass, but inhibits depressurisation of the core, because the pore profiles tend to be self-choking when the pressure within the insert is higher than that outside it.</p> |
