Burner with two stage combustion - uses high air content mixt. in first chamber whose exhaust is fed to second chamber

The burner uses a low air to fuel ratio to prevent formation of nitrogen oxides and carbon monoxide. The first part of fuel is burnt in a first combustion chamber with an excess of atmospheric air. Oxygen containing combustion gases are generated which are subsequently cooled. The second part of the fuel is burnt in a second combustion chamber. The cooled combustion gases from first combustion chamber are used as the only oxidising medium or as major proportion of th oxidising gases.
