Air is removed from an open fermentation receiver from the top, after chargint the organic waste and filling it completely with water. The medium is then inoculated with methane-generating bacteria and also cellulolytic bacteria, the aste contains cellulose, the receiver is shut and the methane evolved is collected via a conduit at the top. AFter evolution has stopped, the fermented waste is recovered and dried by evaporation. A fermentation dose of methane generating anaerobic bacteria for use in the above comprises a nitrogeneous culture medium placed in a pressure resistant metallic container closed by a perforated metal stopper packed with a filter of carded cotton. A similar dose of cellulolytic anaerobic bacteria comprises a medium opt. contg. cellulosic material. Process is effected in an appts. comprising a sealed fermenter, provided with a safety valve and a branched methane conduit at the top and lid of 40-50 cm. dia. The dried fermentation waste is used in animal feeds. The process avoids either a pre-aerobic fermentation or a preheating required in previous processes. |
