Oral veterinary bromhexine compsn. - for control of cough, esp. in horses

Prepn. of bromhexine for veterinary use by bromination of N-(2-aminobenzyl)-diethylamine in CHCl3 with 1 mol. of Br2, concentrating the soln. to 1/10 volume and using the concentrate for treatment orally of upper respiratory infections in animals. esp. horses. The prod. has antitussive activity in dogs, cattle, and horses. Activity in horses is three times that of other cpds.
