An air blast generator for the backflushing of dust filter elements has a fixed diffuser built into the clean gas outlet of the element. A closing cover can be swung down to centre a collector nozzle in the diffuser. If compressed air is admitted to a stationary dDeLaval nozzle, a high-energy air blast of several 1000mm w.g. is created. The system is adequate to clean even dust deposits from compact filters for the mining and tunnelling applications where the filter resistance may be as high as 800 mm w.g.
