The mechanism adjusts the position of a bicycle wheel spindle in a frame and comprises a foot (1) of metal plate cut out to form a notch (4) supporting and guiding the spindle (5). A thruster (2) fits in the bottom of the notch and contains a screw (7) movable axially parallel to the axis of the notch. The thruster can comprise a body of the same thickness as the foot and of shape complementary to the base of the notch with two shoulders extending over the foot on either side to prevent movement at right angles to the plane of the foot.
